PEDESTRIAN HIT BY BUS

A Brooklyn woman was hit by a New York City Transit Authority Bus.  She was knocked to the ground and the bus stopped on her foot.  When she removed her foot she suffered a degloving injury with multiple fractures.  She was hospitalized for 2 weeks.  She required subsequent surgery to her opposite leg due to an uneven gait.  A Queens jury returned a $16,000,000.00 verdict in favor of the injured pedestrian.  The verdict was the largest Queens verdict for 2005 and the 7th largest verdict in the State of New York.

YOUNG GIRL BURNED BY WATER WHEN STOVE TIPPED

A $3,000,000.00 settlement was reached, before trial, for an 11 year old Brooklyn girl who sufferred 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 36% of her body.  The stove tipped over when she leaned on the door to clean the oven.  A pot of boiling water fell from the stove top causing severe burns.  The stove was not installed with an anti-tip device.  The stove was shipped with an anti-tip device, warnings were present in several locations on the stove and a brochure was provided with installation instructions for the device. STUDENT INJURED ON PLAYGROUND

A Brooklyn Jury returned a verdict in the amount of $2,550,000 to a plaintiff, a thirteen (13) year old student, who was injured at a New York City public school. The plaintiff was injured when, while playing football, he stepped into a hole in the concrete and fell. As a result of the accident the plaintiff fractured his left leg.

MAN INJURED IN AUTO ACCIDENT

A Brooklyn Jury returned a verdict in the amount of $1,750,000 to a plaintiff who was injured in a car accident. As a result of the accident, plaintiff injured his neck, back and was required to undergo surgery to his neck.

MAN INJURED WHEN HE FELL ON GREASE WHILE CROSSING STREET

A New York County Jury awarded a plaintiff $725,000 when he was caused to slip and fall on grease coming from a clogged catch-basin that was negligently repaired by the City of New York. As a result of the accident, the plaintiff sustained injuries to his knee that required two surgeries.

DRUG TREATMENT FACILITY VIOLATES PATIENTS CONFIDENTIALITY

A Brooklyn woman went into a drug treatment facility voluntarily.  The doctors fealt that her employer should know about her addiction because she worked with children.  The treatment facility released information that identified the woman to their lawyers (they did not release her name).  The lawyers for the facility included the indetifying information in papers that were filed in open court.  The story was picked up and covered by several newspapers.  The woman lost her job and  her  addiction  and treatment became public information.  The case settled for a substantial sum.

PATIENT INJURED WHEN SHE FELL OUT OF HOSPITAL BED

A Bronx Jury awarded $370,000 to a seventy (70) year old woman who was caused to fall out of a bed at a New York City Hospital when a nurse was trying to restrain her. The plaintiff was caused to fracture her hip and required surgery.

HANDYMAN INJURED WHILE WORKING

A Brooklyn Jury returned a verdict in favor of the plaintiff for injuries sustained to the nerves in his leg when he was caused to fall on a step that broke while he was working on a deck. He received $350,000.

CHILD INJURED AS A RESULT OF LEAD POISONING

A Bronx Jury awarded a child $300,000 for injuries received as a result of lead poisoning sustained in an apartment that had peeling and flaking paint. As a result of the lead poisoning, the child had problems in school and had to be placed in special classes.

BICYCLIST INJURED WHEN STRUCK BY CAR

A New York County awarded $350,000 to a bicyclist who was hit by a car. The plaintiff was caused to re-injure his shoulder and required surgery

ELDERLY COUPLE INJURED IN AUTO ACCIDENT

A settlement was obtained for a maried couple from Brooklyn in the amount of $750,000 for injuries they sustained in an auto accident. They were passengers in a car and the husband sustained injuries to his neck, back and hand and the wife's leg was fractured in 3 places requiring surgery.

CHILD STRUCK BY BUS WHILE RIDING BICYCLE

A settlement in the amount of $200,000 was obtained during trial for a 6 year old child who came out of a driveway on her bicycle and was hit by a bus. She sustained a fractured leg that required a closed reduction under general anesthesia.
